Concrete or pavers?
Start with the purpose of the space: parking, walking, dining or gathering. Then compare the appearance, surface texture, installation scope and care each option needs.
Pavers are individual units; concrete is poured and can have different finishes. Neither option eliminates the need for appropriate base preparation, drainage and maintenance.
Ask for options based on the same area and site conditions. A low headline price is not a like-for-like comparison if removal or preparation is missing.
Before the first conversation
- Your city or ZIP code and the intended use of the space.
- Rough dimensions, if you have them.
- Current photos showing the area, existing surfaces and access.
- Your preferred finish, budget range and timeframe.
- Any drainage concerns or work you want to combine.
You do not need every answer to get started. A consultation can help clarify the scope.
Compare what is included
Review the materials, finish, dimensions, preparation, removal, hauling and cleanup in each written quote. Ask which items are excluded or subject to review.
For concrete, discuss the intended use, proposed thickness, reinforcement, drainage, joints and finish with the contractor. Do not assume the same specification suits every site.
Confirm any permit or engineering needs, project timing and payment terms before agreeing to the work.
Explore planning rangesPlan related work together
Consider irrigation, planting areas, paths, privacy and the patio as parts of the same yard. Changes below or beside a finished surface can affect the order of work.
If you want to build in stages, identify the first priority and discuss what preparation should happen before that phase. Timing and feasibility need a property-specific review.
